Brent Hanks takes home his first WSOP Bracelet
On Wednesday night Brent Hanks secured his first WSOP Bracelet on Event #2 $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em final table at the 2012 World Series of Poker, and now has $1,115,914 in live earnings as well. The St. Bonaventure graduate put on quite a show on the way to his first WSOP gold bracelet victory and the top prize of $517,725.
He truly showed that all you need is a chip and a chair; on Day 2. “I did not even have enough to cover the small blind, and I had one full ante. I chopped a pot and won four pots on five consecutive hands to get right back to 20-25 blinds, and then shortly after that I doubled up again and I was back in the tournament feeling really good. The whole chip and a chair thing,” said Hanks after the victory.
In an interesting turn of events, Hanks faced off with fellow teacher Jacob Bazeley in the long heads-up final. The two had become friendly during the tournament and even ate pizza together during the dinner break on Day 2. Hanks gave this analysis when asked about his final opponent. “It started off deep, but we played for so long that everything seemed standard for heads-up. As soon as the last level hit we were more vulnerable to three-bets. It changed the dynamics of the heads-up game. I widened my range a little bit and I’m sure he did as well. He knew he was getting in good, he fist pumped when he saw my A-8. It was the bottom of my range to get in. Essentially a coin-flip but if that’s what it came to, so be it. We were only 50 blinds deep, maybe not even that.” (Hanks hit an ace on the flop in that hand and it eventually propelled him to victory.)
