HPT: Will Failla Triumphs in Heartland’s 100th Event
It is only fitting that the 100th event of the popular Heartland Poker Tour series was a star-studded event with a big name champion. The HPT’s visit to the River City Casino and Lumiere Park Casino in St. Louis, Missouri drew notable names like Phil Hellmuth, Chris Moneymaker, Allen Kessler, Darvin Moon, and Greg Raymer, but the notable name who notched yet another televised victory was Will “The Thrill” Failla.
Failla defeated a field of 328 players in the $1,650 buy-in event and earned $119,604 for his latest big win. Failla began the final table armed with a massive wall of chips and more experience than his competitors and ended with the HPT’s 100th title. The victory is Failla’s seventh cash of 2012 and brings his earnings for the year to more than $400,000.
The top 33 finishers in the event earned at least $2,286. The event generated a total prize pool of $476,256. That makes the St Louis stop the largest event of the HPT’s seventh season so far. Over the course of 100 events, the tour has awarded more than $33 million in prize money. For example, third place finisher Bill Matula won a seat for just $190 and exited the event with nearly $43,000.
The HPT has a busy month ahead with three events scheduled for April. The next stop for the HPT is the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, running from April 6-15 with the Main Event running from the 12th through the 15th.
