Local wins WPT MarrakechThe World Poker Tour has been travelling to Marrakech, Morroco for three years, but the stop has never produced a local winner until this past weekend. In fact, the Moroccans managed to post a one-two punch as Mohamed Ali Houssam defeated fellow countryman Toufik Ourini for a WPT title and a more than $267,000 payday. The third annual WPT Marrakech Main Event drew the biggest field in the stop’s history with 274 runners. Although Even with the smaller buy-in, the stop still generated a seven-figure prize pool with a quarter million dollar payday and a seat in the WPT Championship for the winner. The field drew a number of notable European pros, including Sam El Sayed, Rober Hairabedian, Davidi Kitai, Eugene Katchalov, and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, who came up just shy of making his third WPT final table. Grospellier made it to the final day of play, but finished just outside of the final six in eighth place. The biggest name at the final table was EPT winner Arnaud Mattern, who finished in fourth place. His exit set up a battle between relative unknowns Houssam, Ourini, and Maksim Martinov. After Martinov exited in third, the Moroccans were assured victory and a place in the WPT record books. Houssam bested Ourini when Ourini flopped top pair to Houssam’s middle set. The set held up and Houssam claimed the title and a $267,011 payday. The next stop for the World Poker Tour is its event in Prague, which starts on Thursday, December 1st. The tour will also make its final US stop of the year at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio starting December 6th. Here are the final table results from WPT Marrakech:
