Aussie Poker Pro Sentenced for Cocaine Smuggling

Professional poker player David Saab has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in trying to smuggle 14.6 kg of cocaine into Australia.

Saab will serve at least 10 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

His two co-accused, Darren Hughes and Robert Remeeus, were each given lesser sentences of eight years in jail with a five-year minimum.

All three pleaded guilty but the judge sentenced Saab the heaviest for his role in recruiting the others into the scheme and being the key organizer.

The three were arrested in January of this year after the drugs were found in a shipment of agricultural equipment to Sydney from Canada.

The shipment was tracked to Melbourne where the three were arrested and charged with importing and possessing a commercial quantity of cocaine.

The street value of the cocaine was estimated to be between $6.5 and $8.5 million.

On the felt, Saab has well over half a million in live tournament earnings including a 46th-place finish at the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event for $135,000.

His biggest live tournament result was a win at the 2008 Asian Poker Tour event in Manila for $230,000.

The three apparently met through playing poker. Remeeus played online poker.

Message from the CEOTournament Games VS Cash Games

Is there really a face off between tournament games and cash games, or does it really depend on your style and preference of the game and speed? We decided to a comparison of the two in hopes of just trying to see if we can decide which one we preferred…not sure if a conclusion was made, but either way good FYI’s have been provided on both games.

Tournament Games

Once you decide to buy in and sit, that’s it there no turning back, you're assigned a table, handed the same amount of chips as everyone else, which is a fair bargain…From that moment on - it's all about making the best of the hand dealt and hopes of your opponents making the first mistake.

Disadvantage of Tournament, you must finish in the top positions or first in order to see a real profit, so the game is all about surviving.

Cash games
Quite the opposite. You can jump into a game at any time, so you get to scout the table you wish to play on and simply join. Once you are on you’re not obligated to sit all the way through, you can take a timeout whenever you feel like it. If you don't like what you see, or if you feel you've already peaked, you may leave at any time. And if you loose all your chips, you can always visit the cashier and reverse the curse.

At this point, cash games sound pretty good right? We thought the same until we ran a few numbers;

Topping a tournament is extremely profitable, first place typically gets to keep 25% of all the buy-ins, the second place 15%, and the third a nice 10%. For example, a tournament with a $20 buy-in and 500 participants will pay the first place $2,500, the second $1,500, and the third $1,000. That's a great return on your investment, and the best way to turn online poker skills into fast money.

Big cash tables can also be profitable, but big hand involving many others will not pay as high as a tournament, so you your skills must really come into play in a multi hand involvement.

So which one game wins? We still don’t know, but what we do know now, is for a quick buck Cash Games, for Bigger profit take our chance at Tournament.
