Annie Duke and Jeffrey Pollack Launch New Professional Poker League

Professional poker player Annie Duke is scheduled to be named commissioner of a new professional poker league featuring the biggest names on the tournament poker circuit. The unnamed series will feature four televised events starting in August, leading up to a $1,000,000 freeroll held January 2012. All tournaments will be held at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

The league is scheduled to feature up to 200 professional poker players, who will earn their way into the league based on a formula of finishes in major events, money earned and recent success, online play and cash games will not be considered. League memberships will consist of two-, three- or five-year terms with select players earning lifetime memberships based on the individual’s career success in poker.

Former WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack joins the league as its chairman while maintaining his current role as chairman of Professional Bull Riders, Inc. In a statement, Pollack said: “Membership in our league will signify standing as a true professional in poker. We’re going to apply a little more rigor to that definition.” Pollack also stated that he doesn’t feel the new league is competition to the World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour, and other tournament circuits, but will create its own tradition as players have to excel in major events to be considered for the league.

The league was created by a company called Federated Sports & Gaming, Inc., co-founded by Pollack and the founders of horse racing betting site Youbet.com.

How to Handle Pocket Rockets

It is a golden almost guaranteed hand that we all hope for, but playing the hyped double “A” cards wrong can result in a major down fall.

Getting pocket rockets (two aces) on the pre-flop will of course make you happy; after all it is the best possible starting hand. But you must remember that although it’s the best combination, it still doesn’t guarantee a win.

When you open up to two aces on the preflop, what do you do? Of course raise, as a matter of fact you must raise playing in any position, against anybody, in a table with any limits, in order to drive as many players as you can out of the game.

Once in the action and the flop has been dealt, followed by the turn and the river, what do you do? Do you raise again? No, you don’t! You must calculate your odds before.

What are your real odds of winning this hand? How do you gain a maximum return off of your opponent? Take into consideration pot odds, your opponents previous playing patterns, are they constant bluffers or are they solid poker players?

If you have good chances to win, RAISE. But if your set in a bad opportunity against a sold player fold! Unless you are a real gambler, feel free to check-fold, other wise you are basically paying to view the result!

Yes, of course it’s hard to fold this glorious hand, but sometimes all that glitters isn’t gold!

Many players call even when they have no chances at winning the hand. Again, it’s basically paying to lose, yes pocket rockets is a great starting hand, but once the other cards are out, that’s all it really is, just a great “starting” hand.

Playing this hand aggressive from the start is the best strategy, but knowing when to walk away also is your best strategy.
